Bo's Phone call

A few days ago, as I was lying on the couch having my own silly pity party because I was tired of coughing and hacking, my phone rang. I drug myself from the couch and answered the phone only to hear some strange noises with a voice in the background. The caller ID said the call was from Bo. I listened several seconds saying the obligatory hellos, then finally hung up. About 30 seconds later, just as I lowered by aching body back to the couch, the phone rang again. Groaning I got back up to answer the phone. Again, the caller ID said it was Bo, again the same crackling noises. I hung up, then called him. "This is Bo" said that voice that always makes me smile. I said, "Hi, whatcha doing". He said he was making charts and asked what was I doing. "Answering your phone calls" I replied. He then laughed and asked "Did I call you?" We spoke for just a few seconds because he was obviously at work then hung up. It is amazing what laughter does for a tired old body. I didn't go back to the couch, but happily started my day with a smile on my face. Children do that to their moms you know.

Today was a day of reflection and pride. We, of course, have family members who have honored our country and sacrificed much for the protection of our freedoms. We also have a grandson who is in the army. At the age of 18, Corey is still more boy than man. But we are so very proud of him. We went to a Veteran's Memorial Dedication. Corey wore his dress uniform. When the flag was raised to half-mast, he stood at attention, back straight, hand raised in salute. I couldn't help but just look at him and look at him. He was a man. He is a soldier. My eyes filled with tears as I my heart swelled with pride. I wanted to hold him to my heart as I did when he was a beautiful baby. My cheeks are still wet with tears I cannot help but shed asI feel so much love for this young man. I am afraid for him as I wonder what lies ahead of him as a member of the United States Army. I am so proud of him as I see him grow to manhood with a firm testimony in his Lord Jesus Christ. It is my prayer that our loving Heavenly Father will watch over him and our family and that the Savior will keep him in his loving care. He is a special child - a special young man - with a very special spirit who has the ability to influence those around him for good.

Day 1

Okay, this is just to set up the blog. So far in recent history, we have done nothing interesting or funny or noteworthy in any way. We are just living our simple but happy lives.
