November 12, 2009

Today was a day of reflection and pride. We, of course, have family members who have honored our country and sacrificed much for the protection of our freedoms. We also have a grandson who is in the army. At the age of 18, Corey is still more boy than man. But we are so very proud of him. We went to a Veteran's Memorial Dedication. Corey wore his dress uniform. When the flag was raised to half-mast, he stood at attention, back straight, hand raised in salute. I couldn't help but just look at him and look at him. He was a man. He is a soldier. My eyes filled with tears as I my heart swelled with pride. I wanted to hold him to my heart as I did when he was a beautiful baby. My cheeks are still wet with tears I cannot help but shed asI feel so much love for this young man. I am afraid for him as I wonder what lies ahead of him as a member of the United States Army. I am so proud of him as I see him grow to manhood with a firm testimony in his Lord Jesus Christ. It is my prayer that our loving Heavenly Father will watch over him and our family and that the Savior will keep him in his loving care. He is a special child - a special young man - with a very special spirit who has the ability to influence those around him for good.
